Walk to Cure Arthritis North Texas
Saturday, May 3, 2014
Globe Life Park in Arlington
The Walk to Cure Arthritis raises funds and awareness to fight the nation's leading cause of disability. We aren't just helping the millions of people who live with arthritis pain, we're funding research that's getting us closer to a cure.
The event features a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their dogs.
Let's raise funds to find a cure for arthritis, then come together to support each other and walk!
Alyvia Harden (daughter of Arika Harden, FTSI Client Support Specialist) was diagnosed with an auto immune disease, Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), two months before her third birthday. What was thought to be a sick visit to the hospital, turned into the longest seventeen days of the Hardenís lives; full of medical scans/testing, visits from the research teams, failed treatments and lots of questions.
Once Alyvia was diagnosed, she made an instant recovery thanks to a research drug called Anakinra. Alyvia has had daily injections for the past three and a half years. She is a thriving, healthy kindergartner who has proudly lost two baby teeth and just read her first book all by herself. She is a great big sister who plays soccer and loves singing. Even at five years old she proves that people can choose to flourish regardless of their condition.
